CROHN’S AND COLITIS – WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Crohn’s disease and colitis are both classified as types of chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), but they affect your digestive tract differently. Symptoms of both conditions include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and weight loss, which can be confusing, but the location and type of inflammation help to distinguish between the two conditions. Proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment are essential for optimal disease management.  Learn more in today’s feature article.

MOVE WELL

Treating Contusions

If you take a blow to your body or hit yourself against an object, you’ll likely notice a bruise, also known as a contusion, shortly afterward. A contusion goes through a healing process that involves changing colors. Physiotherapy can help during all stages of healing, helping to ensure a quick and uncomplicated recovery.

HOW SHOULD I DRESS FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

When heading to a physiotherapy appointment, make sure that you dress with comfort and mobility in mind.

Loose-fitting clothes such as tank tops, t-shirts, and shorts or jogging pants allow your physiotherapist to access your injured area to assess and treat your injury properly. If you have an upper-body injury, such as a neck or shoulder injury, sleeveless shirts are best. If you have a knee or ankle injury, shorts or loose jogging pants are ideal.

Comfortable, supportive, and non-slip shoes are essential for physiotherapy as they help to keep you stable and safe. Lastly, long hair should be tied up, and jewelry should be removed before your treatment session. The goal of dressing appropriately for physiotherapy is so that your physiotherapist can provide you with the best treatment while keeping you comfortable.
